Yala National Park is famous for its elephant population‚ seen in small and large herds‚ Spotted deer‚ S?mbhar‚ Barking deer‚ Monkey‚ Wild Buffalo‚ Wild Boer‚ Sloth Berar‚ and innumerable varieties of birds‚ endemic and migratory. Peacock is the most famous of the birds at Yala. The mating dance of the male with its colourful plumes fully spread is a photographer?s delight.

Yala National Park is spanning a vast 100‚000 hectares over the Southern and Uva Provinces and is divided into five blocks. Block one is the most visited area since it contains the highest density of leopards. Yala West consists of scrub jungle‚ brackish lagoons and stunning rock monoliths scattered throughout the park‚ its eastern edge is bounded by the South East coast. The bird life comprises over 120 species.
